Mystery Project Part 4

Posted on

It is finished! And yes, it is the pyramids at Giza! I loved working on this and it was so easy. Except… the colors don’t look anything at all like the colors on the finished photograph from the chart. The blues of the sky are not even close. It called for DMC colors, so I am not sure what happened, but I think it looks ok and no one will be comparing the two side by side anyway. The instructions were also non existent and there was no color number listed for the shade that I used behind the hieroglyphs. So I had to just decide on a color. I opted for a light gray and in the end I was a bit disappointed because, again, it didn’t look like the model photo. Oh well.

I really have no idea how I am going to frame this because it is such an odd size. It’s also very small. I stitched it on 11 count to make it as large as possible.

New Mystery Project

Posted on

I’ve started a new project. While the Alice SAL is fun, my concentration hasn’t been the greatest lately and I am also feeling I don’t have much time that I feel up to stitching. But I wanted to be able to work on something. This new project will have very little backstitch, and large blocks of a solid color. I am finding it much easier to work on a project like this at the moment, although my stitching time is currently almost non-existent. I’m hoping to be able to get in about an hour a week. My neck, however, may have other plans. For now, this mystery project is quite blue… any guesses as to what it will be?

The Mystery Unfolds

Posted on

The last week has been full of sickness, the last day of school, and frigid cold temps. Unfortunately, I didn’t get much chance to stitch. I tried, but my hands were shaking so badly that it just didn’t work out. There goes my stitching deadline for this project! It’s still coming along, though, and I am loving every stitch. Usually by this point in a project I am so tired of it that I have to really force myself to finish. But when this one is finally done I think I will only want to do other, similar charts.

Lots of Progress!

Posted on

Here is my latest progress photo of the mystery project.

This chart is from a magazine, so it is cut up into 5 pieces for saving space. That’s why I am kind of all over the place on this one. I am almost done with the 4th section. I have been getting a lot done in the last few days. Unfortunately, I made two errors. The first was in the grass on the lower right. It was supposed to be mostly light green, but I accidentally used the wrong color. When I went to stitch the second symbol, I realized my mistake. I had done so much work, I decided not to rip it all out. There are so many different shades of green that I wouldn’t have even known what to rip. So I kind of improvised and scattered the remaining area with light and dark green. The other mistake was on the very left edge. I started at the bottom row and stitched one cross stitch more than I should have. So when I got to the top of the light purple area by the green stem, I was off. Since I stitched side to side, not top to bottom, I would have to take out ALL of the light purple and start again. I looked at the top left part of the chart and it was pretty sparse, so I decided to just leave it and now I will have to add one extra row on the side all the way up. It shouldn’t be hard because it is just foliage, but I will have to remember when I stitch that part to not start on the left side and work towards the center! If I do that, following the chart, I will be off by one. What a mess! This is what happens when you stitch with kids around and get in about 5 or 6 stitches in between “I’m hungry”, “I’m thirsty”, and “I have to go potty”! I knew I just had to fill in with purple, so I wasn’t looking at the chart. If I had been, I would have noticed right away that I was doing one extra stitch between the edge and the green stem. Grrrr!

Mystery Project

I had to start a new project. I found this great pattern in a British cross stitch magazine last summer, and have wanted to stitch it ever since. But I kept telling myself, no more new projects! But in the end I relented, and am loving this one. What is it going to be? Keep checking back to see! Here’s the first progress photo.
