Christmas in July

Posted on

My new project is a set of 3 Christmas mice designed by Margaret Sherry. I adore her hedgehogs, and her mice are just as cute! The fabric that came with these charts is one long piece, and you are supposed to cut it apart to make 3 cards. But I think I am going to stitch them with the fabric intact, and then decide if I want to keep them together or not. Instead of cards, I might actually make this into a bell pull or possibly a framed piece.

Since I didn’t have any floss bobbins on hand, I decided to improvise and use a cut up cereal box! It worked out pretty well to keep these floss colors sorted. There are quite a few of them.

Here’s my progress so far on the little guy that’s chasing a star.

  1. please help. A friend wants me to stitch up these mice for her Christmas cards. I cannot find the patterns anywhere. Can you direct me where I can find them??

  2. Hi Carolyn,

The magazine they were in is the British magazine World of Cross Stitching. It is issue 220. The patterns for the mice are inside the magazine, along with the info about the fabric (it’s just 14 count white Aida). Unfortunately, no thread numbers are given. I am not sure what brand of floss they use on these cover kits (and maybe they use their own brand). You would have to try to guess at the colors. For the most part, that should be easy. There is white, one shade of red, one shade of yellow, a purple and a dark purple, and three shades of green. Really only the tans used in the mice would matter.

The cover of the magazine has two red poppies on it, along with a scarecrow, fox, sewing room, and ipad cover. You can buy a digital copy of the magazine, if you can’t find the print issue.

You can probably also get it through the Apple app.
