Stash Finish #4

This is a kit for a Christmas Bells card that came free with an issue of the British Magazine Cross Stitch Gallery. I was able to finish it in just two days of stitching. Of all the kits I have ever done, this was by far the worst in terms of sorting colors. I know it doesn’t look like it, but there were 4 shades of red, 4 shades of gold, and 4 shades of green. And the names meant nothing (parrot green, saffron). I had to use the color photo that came with the chart in order to figure it out. On the plus side, it came with WAY more floss than was needed, so my ORT jar is filling up nicely! And the card blank that came with it is lovely. The picture doesn’t really show it, but the entire card is gold paper with a nice lined texture to it.

  1. Hi Carrie, I love your blog.

What does ORT stand for? & do you know of any other cross-stitching blogs like yourself that I could find? 🙂

  2. Hi,

ORT can mean several different things. Some people say it stands for Odd Random Threads; others say Old Ratty Threads. And some people say that “ort” is from an archaic term that means scraps. Basically it is just those leftovers you have from either finishing up a kit, or when you finish with a certain color and you don’t really have enough left to save for another use. Some people start a new jar each year, and then at Christmas time they fill up a clear glass ornament with all of their threads and write the year on it in a fancy marker. I think that sounds pretty neat! I am not sure what I will do with my threads, but I have a beautiful quilted jelly jar that they are sitting in right now. Thanks for asking – I didn’t realize I hadn’t explained, so that should be my next blog post!

    Carrie
